Over the past five years, rim profiles have changed dramatically, with the most notable change being in width. Some rim models are now available in multiple widths. However, manufacturers often provide vague information about how these rims interact with tires and affect ride quality. In some cases, they even provide different information for rims with similar profiles.
The reality is that, as an industry, we are still figuring things out. This leaves a lot of gray areas but also presents numerous opportunities for you, as the consumer, connoisseur, and rider, to provide your input. With no hard and fast rules, you have the freedom to experiment and consult experts to make informed choices. We are here to guide you through this process.

Note:
- Our recommendations are based on rim-tire compatibility tests with some of the most popular tires. This chart serves only as a general guide, as factors such as bead design, inflation pressures, and other variables can affect actual rim-tire compatibility. Please send the rim profile to the tire manufacturer for confirmation.
- We don’t recommend choosing the largest or smallest values within a size range. For example, MTB tire in a range from 1.9” to 2.1”, 2.0” is the optimal choice for most riders.
- This chart is applicable only to CBK rims with a unique rim-tire interface. If you are using rims from other brands, please send the rim profile to the tire maker for recommendations.
